Setting Up Microsoft Outlook 97
Because Internet Navigator uses SMTP Authentication, you will need to make
sure you have the the Outlook 97 Internet Mail Enhancement Patch downloaded
and installed. You can get the patch from Microsoft
(directions are on the same page).
Some people have reported that they are still unable to set up SMTP Authentication
even with the patch installed. If this is the case, you will need to upgrade
to a newer version of Outlook, or use a different mail client.
- In Microsoft Outlook 97, click on the Tools menu and go to Services.
- In the Services window that appears, click on the Add button.
- Highlight Internet Mail, then click OK.
- On the General Tab:
- In the Your Name field, enter your name.
- In the Email field, enter your e-mail address.
- The other fields can be left blank.
- Click on the Servers Tab:
- If prompted, set the type of server to POP3.
- For the incoming and outgoing server names, enter "mail.yourdomain"
where "yourdomain" matches the domain name you have registered,
or what follows the @-sign in your e-mail address.
- In the Username or Account Name field, enter your e-mail address.
- In the Password field, enter your password.
- Place a check next to "My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication."
- Click on OK. You will be told that the changes will not take effect until
you choose to Exit And Log Off, click OK.
- Click on the File menu and select Exit and Log Off.
Your account is now set up in Microsoft Outlook 97.
